After a quick tour of the place without realtors, painters, previous homeowners, etc, we got down to work. Everything that happened after that moment is pretty much a blur, but all we have to say is THANK GOODNESS FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS. Jif and E showed up first thing Saturday morning, Kabota in tow, ready to rip out the grossly overgrown (albiet blooming) rhodadenron and other shrubery as well as paint our tri-colored deck. Jan began painting the huge red brick fireplace. Lacy and Aaron showed up with the essentials: food, wine, and toilet paper. :-)
After two solid days of work we can definitely say that we are well on our way to knocking down our lengthy project list. Rachel is sporting an awesome Chaco tan and Davy has a farmers tan that would challenge John Deere, all signs of a successful first weekend of homeownership.
OK....first things first. How much sun is that blank slate getting throughout the day? What's it like at 10am, 1pm, 4pm? I heard mention of crepe myrtles and laurels, however bit of a dichotomy....one loves full sun (cm) and the other likes a bit of shade (l). Given lots of rh's, would guess some shade however they were looking a abit scragely which could mean they have been getting too much sun all this time.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see more pics!!!! Love the after all ready. Steph
Love the idea of a blog! I will be on it regularly to monitor your progress. Hope you can get an "after" picture of the fireplace posted, but I bet you are waiting until you have the four gaping holes covererd where the fan vents are. Be sure to set up the firescreen when you take that picture.
ReplyDeleteI have seen a variety of lovely evergreen shrubs in our neighborhood. I will try to identify them by name and pass along.
Love you much,
Mom
